I went to visit a naturopath.

If your unsure what a naturopath is here is a little definition i stole from wiki:

Naturopathy, or naturopathic medicine, is a form of alternative medicine based on a belief in vitalism, which posits that a special energy called vital energy or vital force guides bodily processes such as metabalism, reproduction, growth, and adaptation. Naturopathy favors a holistic approach with non-invasive treatment and generally avoids the use of surgery and drugs.

Just like the circle of life and each life form providing a valuable part of the process so do nutrients in our body. Any issue from insomnia to  muscle aces to migraines is all discussed offering not only an explanation but also a cure! One that involves no drugs you can't pronounce just food and/or natural herbs.

It was wonderfully refreshing from the doctors that you see these days who are quick to prescribe pain kills or any kind of other drug that they think may (or may not) help. How often have you heard "try this and if it doesn't get better in a week or so come back in"?! And all too often what they prescribe, and always with pain killers, only serves to mask the problem not cure it. So to naturopath's i salute! for finding a natural and wholistic alternative to pumping my body with toxins. You guys are ACE!

Here are a few things i learnt along the way that might help you:

GO ORGANIC

Organic produce is significantly higher in nutrients - especially meats! If the animal itself is caged, injected with hormones and given the cheapest feed it's going be unhealthy and lacking in nutrients therefore so will the meat. Buying and eating organic you can be sure the animal itself is healthier, the meat more nutricous and it'll be better for the environment.

GOOD FATS are GOOD

When we hear the word fat we have been conditioned to think bad - but there are so many fats that are good. Fats that we need - turns out that we need 3 teaspoons three times a day! These good fats are found in avocados, nuts, olives, oils such a extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil and flaxseed oil and even peanut butter (just be careful not to get the ones full of sugar)

VEGETARIANISM and PROTEIN

Getting complete proteins is important to vegetarians! You can do this easily by combining:
  • Grains + legumes
  • Grains + nuts or seeds
  • Legumes + nuts or seeds
These combinations provide a dish of complete, high-quality protein! Here are just a few foods from these groups you can easily grab from your local grocer and pair galore!
Grains: Brown rice, oats, millet, corn, barley, bulgur, wheat, quinoa
Legumes: Green peas, lentils, chickpeas, alfalfa sprouts, mung beans, all beans (kidney, black, lima, aduki, navy beans, soy beans and soy products)
Dark Green Vegetables (spinach, collard greens, broccoli, kale, asparagus)
Nuts and seeds: Almonds, cashews, walnuts, filberts, pistachios, pecans, macadamia, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, chia seeds, and seed and nut butters
It's recommended to do this at every meal but i think just being aware and trying to do it at least daily will help!
HELP YOUR BODY
Tea, coffee and alcohol all prohibit or hinder your body from breaking down, soaking up and storing nutrients. Although i'm sure it's best to not drink any, that would be a little bit too intense, maybe just try to tone it down.
HYDRATE
If nothing else drink more water! It helps your body to function, flush out the bad and break down the good.
